Background and issues
Streem (formerly Ermewa) is one of the leading players in the freight and intermodal wagon leasing sector in Europe, and in tank container leasing worldwide.
The Streem Group specializes in the design, optimization, financing and management of strategic assets for the global supply chain, offering its customers safe, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly asset solutions.
Streem commissioned us for a Business Intelligence project.
What does the Streem Group need?
The Streem Group currently finds itself at a strategic crossroads when it comes to Business Intelligence (BI).
To remain competitive and continue to innovate, it is crucial for the company to gain an in-depth understanding of how BI works within its structures.
This involves a careful analysis of existing tools to identify their strengths and potential shortcomings.
What’s more, in a world where technology and methods are evolving at lightning speed, it’s just as important for the Streem Group to keep abreast of new BI usages.
In this way, up-to-date knowledge will enable the group to make informed decisions and ensure effective implementation of BI to meet both its current and future objectives.
Infologo’s involvement in this project
Faced with the growing complexity of Business Intelligence, the Streem Group decided to call on Infologo.
This approach offers the opportunity to benefit from a wealth of external expertise, acquired across multiple business sectors.
Such collaboration guarantees an objective analysis, free from internal prejudices, while freeing up internal resources for other essential missions.
Infologo provided specialized tools and in-depth knowledge of market trends, ensuring a more relevant and up-to-date analysis.
Beyond the expertise, this collaboration also represents an opportunity for the Streem Group to minimize the risks associated with BI, while enriching in-house skills.
Microsoft Power BI: the solution that met Streem’s expectations
Microsoft Power BI proved to be the solution of choice to meet the Streem Group’s specific Business Intelligence needs.
Power BI was already integrated within the group, but until then its use lacked clear rules and a homogeneous architecture to optimize its potential.
Recommendations were put forward to standardize its use and make the most of the advanced functionalities offered by the tool.
These guidelines made it possible to rationalize certain internal processes and to direct short- and medium-term developments towards uniform, precise data use.
This data is then translated into KPIs to help manage the Group’s performance. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT The project was meticulously planned and executed in several stages to guarantee its success.
- First of all, an in-depth audit of existing uses was carried out to obtain an overview of current Business Intelligence practices, particularly within the financial sphere.
- Following this audit, interviews were conducted with key participants to deepen understanding of each department’s needs, challenges and expectations.
These interviews led to a series of diagnoses, highlighting areas of opportunity as well as areas requiring improvement. - Finally, armed with this valuable knowledge, a BI strategy was drawn up, aimed at aligning the use of Business Intelligence with the company’s overall objectives, while meeting the specific needs identified during the previous phases of the project.
Project results
By bringing together all Business Intelligence stakeholders, we fostered a constructive dialogue that highlighted common ideas, consolidating the company’s strategic BI vision.
Among the many proposals that emerged, the dominant idea, unanimously recognized as essential, was the appointment of a Chief Data Officer.
This decision aims to centralize the management, integrity, architecture and security of information, thus guaranteeing optimal and consistent use of data throughout the organization.
