Aruba WiFi for professionals

EMS CPEG (ex CEH)

CPEG, Caisse de prévoyance du personnel des établissements publics médicaux du canton de Genève (CPEG), is a pension fund whose primary aim is to insure its members against the economic consequences of old age.
CPEG believes it has an ethical responsibility as an investor.
It is therefore only natural that, through the Fondation pour l’exploitation d’établissements de la CPEG, it has decided to become involved in the construction of housing and facilities for the elderly, and provides operators and staff with the tools and technologies they need to carry out their missions consistently.

The need: mobile voice and Internet communications

Caregivers face challenges on a daily basis, so it was essential that they be able to communicate with each other and with residents on the move, as well as having access to a wireless internet connection available to residents, enabling access to medical records.

The solution: IP500 PBX and AWTS for greater flexibility

To meet this need, Infologo has interconnected mobile telephony over IP to the sick call, anti-wandering, technical alarm and fire alarm systems.
Analog phones with large buttons were also added to this infrastructure.

The benefits: easier internal and external communication

The solution implemented now enables communication between fixed and mobile users, with free calls between all subscribers on the 3 sites.
We have also installed an anti-errance badge and Internet access in all rooms.

Our technical response in detail

The system installed 20 years ago was in need of replacement: it was no longer possible to benefit from support in the event of technical problems.
It was therefore necessary to study a new solution that met current needs.
Triggering calls solely via fixed devices was no longer satisfactory: although elderly, residents move around the facility.
In the event of a fall, they were unable to call for help.
A solution with call bracelets was necessary, but this meant that the telephony and call processing system also had to be wireless. What we implemented The solution we sought had to meet the needs of both professionals (EMS staff) and residents.
Indeed, over 50% of residents will want Internet access in their rooms within the next 5 to 10 years, an issue we had to consider in creating the offering.
The hybrid telephony solution, which combines IP technologies for mobile telephony with digital and analog devices for landline telephones, offers a number of advantages.
These include the reuse of existing cabling for all fixed devices, as well as the reduction in their number due to the fact that mobile telephony becomes available in and around the building.
Today, 150 Avaya 3641 WI-FI devices are in operation at the 3 sites.
The change of PBX on the 3 sites also prompted CPEG to sign a contract with a single operator.
The result was a significant reduction in fixed costs (PRA connection) and communication costs. CPEG case studySolutions for professionals In this project, the needs of facility professionals were very different from those of residents.
Indeed, different equipment was installed for administrative staff, namely the IP Office 500, and for nursing, housekeeping and technical service staff, who were allocated IP-mobile.
The IP Office’s SCN device also enables Wi-Fi devices to be roamed: as staff move from one EMS to another, their phones are automatically connected to the WLAN network in the vicinity of the second building, so they can be reached again.
Videophones have been installed at the main entrances and are directly connected to the PBX.
IP cameras enable images to be viewed from computers and smartphones via the WLAN, and doors to be opened remotely.
Finally, a messaging system and an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system designed to redirect external calls to the appropriate EMS staff have been set up to handle calls outside switchboard opening hours. Tailor-made solutions for residents Residents do not have the same expectations in terms of telephony and connectivity as facility staff.
For example, their telephones have been replaced by an analog model that is particularly well suited to the needs of the elderly: illuminated keypad with large buttons, easily adjustable ringer and volume, handset compatible with hearing aids… To match the needs of the residents, we recommended the installation of Wi-FI mobile devices integrating sick calls, anti-fugue devices, technical alarms and fire alarms. In addition, the elevators are equipped with analog intercoms that are also connected to the PBX; if necessary, the call button automatically triggers a call to the nursing staff.
Finally, thanks to the installation of the Avaya IP Office solution, all residents benefit from preferential communication costs and free calls to the facility’s service department.

Customer testimonial

“What I really like about Avaya is how easy it is to implement the various functions you want.
With many traditional manufacturers, you have to add options or integrate third-party software.
This is always complicated, a source of errors and even malfunctions.
With Avaya, on the other hand, it’s very simple: all functions are natively integrated into the IP Office.
It’s also easy to pair a landline with a mobile Wi-Fi phone, so the subscriber can be reached with a single call number and answered on either device.
