VMware has been gaining considerable momentum in the virtualization field since its creation in 1998.
VMware is even referred to as the world’s leading virtualization specialist.
Amazon’s cloud computing arm, AWS, often referred to as the “cloud leader”, is also amassing a worldwide customer base.
These two heavyweights in their respective fields have decided to join forces and become partners… Beware of collateral damage!

VMware Cloud on AWS, a partnership to strengthen the hybrid cloud

The two American companies are determined to change the face of the cloud, and in particular that of the hybrid cloud.
And when we talk about hybrid cloud, we’re talking about an ingenious, refined and mature mix of private and public cloud services.
The more sensitive the data, the more naturally we move towards private clouds, for greater data security and better control of usage.
However, the main objective remains to achieve considerable savings, by opting for public and partly outsourced solutions, to reduce the share of private or in-house solutions, often deemed too expensive and unprofitable.
The challenge of continuing to reduce costs, while remaining competitive in terms of performance and services, is what VMware and AWS set themselves when they launched their partnership, which will become effective during 2017.

VMware Cloud on AWS, an offering that scares the competition

In the corridors of leading cloud companies, not everyone is happy about this partnership, which is seen as dangerous.
Microsoft, for example, is still grimacing.
It’s hard to appreciate such a powerful competitor, to overshadow Microsoft Azure and its widely deployed range of integrated cloud services.
At IBM, too, tensions are running high, as the IBM and VMware association did take place, too, in early 2016, but it was reportedly not conclusive enough to suffice for virtualization giant VMware.

Customers doubly satisfied with VMware Cloud on AWS

For VMware customers and AWS customers alike, this is a godsend!
Indeed, it’s a real solution that includes robust and convincing services, which will be managed by VMware, which will set up an infrastructure totally dedicated to this partnership.
Customers from both partners will be able to benefit from the results of heavy investment in several facets of the project, including engineering, operations and sales.
