Following the March 2018 opening of four datacenters in France, Microsoft had announced the opening of two datacenters in Switzerland for 2019.
The deadline is getting closer, with the two centers due to see the light of day over the second half of the year, in the cantons of Geneva and Zurich, opening up new possibilities for the Cloud in Switzerland.
A response to the needs of certain companies
Microsoft plans to offer its Cloud services to companies, public administrations and NGOs.
For several years, Microsoft teams have been working in collaboration with Swiss financial institutions and their regulatory bodies.
Microsoft has therefore decided to set up these two datacenters in order to meet the needs of these companies on a long-term basis.
This will enable them to pursue their digital transformation by benefiting from the innovations offered in particular by Microsoft Azure and Office 365.
“We want to be the first provider in the world to offer enterprise cloud services from Swiss datacenters,” said Marianne Janik, General Manager of Microsoft Switzerland, when announcing the opening of these two centers.
Until now, you could choose to store your cloud data in Microsoft centers in Europe, the USA or Asia.
Greater security for sensitive data
You can now benefit from Azure and Office 365 services in Switzerland, which is ideal for managing sensitive data in complete security.
Indeed, the ability to store data in “cloud regions” based around Geneva and Zurich adds a new layer of control.
On the other hand, it also enables you to better comply with various regulatory requirements, especially since Microsoft is committed to following all Swiss federal laws as well as regulatory policies related to specific businesses or uses.
As such, Microsoft teams have declared their services to be compliant with regulations and agreements such as the “EU-US Privacy Shield”, “Swiss-US Privacy Shield”, “Federal Swiss Data Protection Act” and “EU Model Clauses”.
“It’s a solution that is particularly well suited to Swiss customers such as SMEs, start-ups and fintechs. The aim of these openings is to enable you to keep your critical data in Switzerland, while taking advantage of replication systems between the two datacenters to ensure continuity of service in the event of an incident.
UBS has announced that it will be working with Microsoft Switzerland
UBS is already attracted by the idea of operating with a cloud hosted in Swiss datacenters.
It has therefore signed up with Microsoft to accelerate its transition to the public cloud.
By migrating more applications to Azure, the famous Swiss bank intends to cut costs while complying with strict Swiss privacy laws.
