While the last end of the world may not have taken place as announced, we will nevertheless have to mourn Windows XP within a few months, with an “almost programmed” death on April 8, 2014.
So the countdown has begun.
But why is Microsoft announcing the end of a program that has worked so well?
An expiring warranty
Microsoft’s explanation is quite rational.
The company launched XP in 2003, with a 10-year “warranty”.
By guarantee, we mean updates, enhancements, problem detection and correction… This permanent support is now coming to an end.
The 10-year promise has now expired, and the brand has warned that it will be essential to migrate to more modern support.
How do users react?
Over the past 10 years, Windows XP has built up a solid reputation among operating systems.
Although it has been the subject of criticism ever since its creation and the launch of support for both home and professional versions, it has nonetheless been used by several hundred million users worldwide.
With the announcement of XP’s demise, users still using this operating system will have no choice but to change direction.
Fortunately, this planned end has been rather well supervised by the Group, which has set up networks of experts within Microsoft itself and others certified by the Group (such as resellers like Infologo).
Large, medium-sized and small companies can therefore call on Microsoft for assistance with this inevitable migration.
But now is the time to consider this change, as a migration of this kind can take several months.
Eventually, the new platform will require on-the-job training, because even if we work hard to make the tools intuitive, you can’t become a “war lightning” with just a few clicks.
Microsoft solutions
To fill the void left by the imminent demise of Windows XP, Microsoft seems to have only one word on its lips: Windows 8, of course.
The latest Windows system will be a major contender.
But Windows 7 could also be a real alternative.
Before taking the plunge, it’s best to discuss this with a Microsoft-certified partner, such as Infologo.
If you bought a recent PC, i.e. less than 4 years old, you are not concerned by the emergency and are equipped with Windows 7 or 8.
