Two-factor authentication is still a little-known and little-used mechanism.
As a reminder, the principle of double authentication or two-factor authentication is to increase the security of an account on the web to prevent data piracy.
In fact, when you log in, a security code is sent to you by another means (SMS, email, application, etc.) to confirm that it’s really you.
Without these two validations, web pirates won’t be able to access your information.
Poor protection of user accounts
According to a recent study byEset, less than half of Swiss use two-factor authentication (42%).
Or one in three people don’t know what it is or consider that they have no use for it.
And that’s the problem, because these results are both alarming and a godsend for hackers.
Even if some of the population is aware of the need to implement these cybersecurity measures to protect access data, many users still don’t implement them, or are even unaware of the process.
Real awareness-raising work is essential in companies.
Breaking out of the digital comfort zone
Again according to the Eset survey, the main problem that emerges concerns the aspect of comfort and ease.
Indeed, 32% say they remember their passwords or use the “forgot password” button.
A further 15% write down their passwords in a notebook and 8% save them in their browser.
Only one in 4 people in Switzerland uses a password manager.
This survey clearly shows that most users are unaware of the risks and damage that such carelessness can cause.
These cybersecurity concepts need to be conveyed more widely.
With IT attacks on the increase, it’s imperative to activate this easy-to-implement protection.
Why dual authentication?
Despite all the complexity you might put into your password, it won’t always be enough to effectively protect your account and personal data.
That’s why many sites have introduced double authentication, also known as strong authentication or two-factor authentication.
At Infologo, we do our utmost to make our customers aware of the risks of cybercrime.
Recently, we set up a partnership with TryRiot.com, which offers toteach your employees the basics of cybersecurity, all in a pleasant and interactive way, based on chat, lasting around 5 minutes.
How do you set up dual authentication at home?
