The RPSA project
RPSA (formerly CPEG), the pension fund for employees of public medical establishments in the canton of Geneva, is a pension fund whose primary aim is to insure its members against the economic consequences of old age, death and disability.
It represents 4 social medical establishments (EMS) in Geneva.
In 2006, RPSA commissioned an engineering consultancy to define a residential alarm and telephony solution that would meet current and future needs.
The engineering consultancy drew up a set of specifications that included the following challenge:
The challenge: telephony, alarms and Wi-Fi on a single network
The nursing staff who look after the elderly are constantly called upon, sometimes urgently, and must respond as quickly as possible.
To optimize interventions, caregivers must be able to communicate with each other wherever they are, and must be able to call a resident in his or her room.
Only a mobile telephony infrastructure can meet these needs.
To ensure the longevity of the mobile installation, it must also provide wireless Internet access for residents, and enable mobile access to the resident’s medical records.
The solution
Relying on the Avaya IP500 PBX and the Avaya Wireless Transmission System (AWTS) solution, we interconnected mobile telephony over IP with the sick call, anti-wandering, technical alarm and fire alarm systems.
All rooms were equipped with analog telephones with large buttons, which can also operate in intercom mode.
Thanks to the identical fixed and mobile installation on all 4 sites, nursing, technical and administrative staff can communicate easily and ensure the comfort and safety of residents at the lowest possible cost.
