IDC estimates that worldwide spending on cloud computing infrastructure (servers, storage and Ethernet switches) will grow by 24% in 2015.
This growth would represent $32.6 billion by the end of the year.
Such growth means that 1/3 of all enterprise spending will be allocated to the cloud.
With an expected year-on-year increase of 5 points, enterprise migration to the cloud continues to grow.
Although 66.9% of spending is still on traditional infrastructures today, there has been a 1.6% drop in investment in this area.
In contrast, private cloud is forecast to grow by 15% (or $12.1 billion), and public cloud by 29.6% (or $20.5 billion).
According to these forecasts, the adoption of the cloud by the majority of businesses is likely to be gradual over the coming years.
Indeed, International Data Conseil forecasts average annual growth of 15.1% in spending on the cloud from 2015 to 2019.
